Jennifer’s week

Hey! My name is Jennifer Ravstam and I am the chairman of the Children’s Embassy in Sweden. I have been doing this since 2009. It is a commitment that is close to my heart. Here’s a look back.

2002 was the year I went to Ukraine for the first time. It was love at first sight I immediately liked the country, the people and the culture. It was a relief shipment trip that went to Ukraine and Moldova.

Then I met Mirjam and Boas for the first time. Came home and started to study Russian, in case I should have the opportunity to go back.

I returned the next year. I did voluntary work in a few summers.

Partly at the summer camp by the sea, but also in Friend’s House in Pisky – it started to find its form in 2003. I was lucky to be student, so I was able to travel in the summer. The journeys were phantastic, but there was no lack of adventure.

I visited Ukraine many times

I visited Ukraine for many years, now alone, now with others. I remember my practical training at a small clinic – it was part of my nurse’s studies.

And I remember the games I played as the only girl in Viktor’s football team.

I have seen the changes in the work over the years. It has been a joy to watch the life of a few children more closely, for a short or a long period. There has been joy and there has been sorrow… The road is not straight for all of us.
I trust and hope that Children’s Embassy and Friend’s House have been and will be a safe haven where children can experience God’s love. They can find strength in faith and know that they are not alone in their struggles, whatever their situation may be.

“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.” (Psalm 27:10)
